Most of us choose to purchase used clothing for a variety of reasons. It can be down to them being cheaper than having to purchase new clothing fresh off the rack – or it can be down to many having a preference of ‘vintage’ clothing which has been passed down a number of people which gives it a fashionable look of ‘wear & tear’.
However, one aspect about used clothing, which people fail to consider, is the fact that it can be very unhygienic to wear clothing, which has been passed down through a number of people.
Which Diseases can you get from used clothes?
The most common types of diseases, which can be transmitted through clothing, are body lice, chicken pox, gonorrhoea, syphilis, and hepatitis A, B, C, D and G. These diseases are not usually considered life threatening, however, if they are not dealt with and dealt with by a doctor straight away, and then you may face some complications down the line.
These can even be caught if the clothing has been washed, but if the clothing hasn’t been washed, ironed or disinfected – the chances of gathering a disease can be significantly higher.
What to do to avoid the Risks
As mentioned it is very important to make sure the clothing is properly washed to avoid any diseases from being able to multiply and transfer to your body. In addition, when you are washing the clothing it is important to use a strong detergent, as this makes sure that the germs on the clothing are properly combated against and dealt with.
Alternatively, if your reason behind purchasing used clothing is the price, you should try look towards getting new urban clothing, which is still available at a competitive price and ensures you are safe from catching any sort of disease
